I would read this thread but my god the first 1 to 8 pages are such a mess..
I've been scouring those pages for incriminating evidence before KR's Clinton-style coverup can begin. Hmm, was the director of any of those films Russian by any chance?

Kevin,

Since you are good at reviewing movies I was wondering if you have ever seen a classic movie called "The Pitt". It was an American production from the early 80's that starred some Canadian actors. I believe the full length feature is on Youtube.
Would you be willing to review it?
Would love to hear your thoughts on it.

Thanks

Sure...  Do you have a link?

Hey Kevin, have you ever seen the movies "Leolo" and "Un zoo la nuit"?

Last Thursday, was the 20th anniversary of the tragic death of director Jean-Claude Lauzon, who directed these two wonderful movies. Upon reading of his death, Johnny was reminded of these two absolutely brilliant films.

If you have not seen them, they are really worth watching. Johnny has not seen them in a few years, so doing a full review of them would be less than ideal. Rather, here is a breif summary of each.

Un zoo la nuit

Upon exiting prison, a man attempts to rekindle an uneasy relationship with his father, and avoid elements from his criminal past. A truly touching movie, that hits all the right notes without ever being sappy, or melodramatic. It's in french, but you can most likely find it with english subtitles.

Leolo

Leolo is a quirky, somewhat surreal coming of age story, about a young boy who lives with one foot in the real world, and with the other in the fantasy world he has imagined for himself.

I saw the first one years ago.  If I remember, it was VERY Canadian and, while good, looked "cheap" - you could tell it was made on a Canadian budget.

The 2nd is not my type of movie.

Thank you for the recommendation, tho.  :)

Johnny is giving this thread a little bump!

Just in case people don't know, the off topic forum is gone, but Kevin's awesome movie review thread is still around, and open for business right here in the main forum!  :)

Mightygoose

Glad to hear the movie reviews are around....well done Kev!

Suggestion for the mods, since this is a off topics thread can the title be amended to reflect this?

i.e. call it 'OT: Movie Reviews' or just 'Off Topic: Movie Reviews'.

It will help decipher them as I'm thinking more OT threads will appear on the main board now.

Thanks, my friend.

I haven't watched any movies for a couple week.  I seem to go thru spirts.  A ton and then none.  I will be seeing Logan Lucky next week so expect a review.

Logan Lucky (2017) :

Logan Lucky stars a flabby Channing Tatum as Jimmy Logan.  Jimmy, and his one armed brother Clyde, worry they are cursed because nothing ever goes their family's way. Both brothers are struggling so they decide to rob the Charlotte Motor Speedway.  What follows is a quirky Coen Brother's-esk version of Oceans 11.

The great Steven Soderbergh, who also made Oceans 11, came out of retirement to direct this movie and we're the lucky ones because his skill is on full display -  Soderbergh's direction is confident and strong, the characters have depth/substance, and the writing is clever and funny. However, I do have two major reservations...

First, at least a third of the movie involves the robbery itself and, sadly, it takes away from the film.  The heist is far too complicated, involves too many people, and there are too many coincidences.  Those flaws are a constant distraction and that's unfortunate because the movie could have been great.  Instead, it's just good.

Oh, and second, the ending makes absolutely NO sense.

I still recommend Logan Lucky but I suggest you turn off your brain in the second half.  I wish I had!  I also wish Soderbergh had spent more time with these characters and less with the flashy overdone subplot.

7/10

Nice, I've been considering seeing Logan Lucky.

I know it's not really your genre, but have you seen Annabelle: Creation?

I thought it was pretty well done, with lots of well-timed scares in a creepy old house. My biggest criticism would be a lack of depth in the actual explanation of the creation part. It came down to, pretty much, "we hoped it would happen and it did."

I'd probably give it about a 7/10.

No.  A/C is not my type of movie.

For the record, I SNUCK in to see Logan Lucky today.  It was so exciting!  I am such a law breaker / bad hombre.

Just a heads up: the authorities have been notified.   >:(
