Ticats OL Ryan Bomben traded to the Alouettes

Posted on May 2, 2018 by Justin Dunk // 0 Comments
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have traded Canadian offensive lineman Ryan Bomben to the Montreal Alouettes, per sources.
It’s believed the Ticats are getting the No. 1 overall pick in return as well as other parts of the deal.
The 30-year-old has played three seasons for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, starting 48 games and was a CFL East Division all-star the last two years. Bomben is entering the final season of his contract.
He was acquired in a deal with the Alouettes prior to the 2015 CFL draft that sent a first and third round pick to Montreal. Bomben, a Burlington native, was originally drafted in the fourth round of the 2010 draft by Montreal.
The Alouettes get a solid Canadian starter who can help them right now.

At first glance. Looks like we were fleeced...What if the neg lister is mystery player wearing #2???????

To HAM: 1st, 31st, 44th, 2019 2nd
To MTL: OL Ryan Bomben, WR Jamal Robinson, 2nd, 34th, 56th, neg lister

so now we pick

1-6-11-15-31-37-62-66 and a 2019-2nd

Hello Mark Chapman.
HAM has a surplus of OL so you trade for a need like a NAT receiver. Its what good teams do.

Trade their best OLineman is not what i was hoping for. Clears up some salary cap though for another signing.
Whatever backup QB that may be....

My initial thoughts are this is to get younger, and a salary cap move.  Ticats will take a replacement OL with first overall pick, get 8 years younger, and pay an inexpensive rookie deal for first 2 years.

The depth picks aren't really material and are pretty much a wash.  Key thing is us moving up 1 spot, and is that guy ultimately worth Bomben plus how much better he is supposed to be vs the 2nd overall pick.

And in all honesty, if Ticats shave $100k+ in salary by dropping Bomben plus Robinson, this might be cap clearing for Manziel....  no other reason why this is needed IMO.  Bomben stud Canadian OL, perennial all-star.  No need to trade unless it's a cap move.

Its simple and brilliant. Tillman knew another team was going to swindle Kavis Reed and take the player he wanted  so he played prevent defense.
Everything I write is just an opinion formed from various sources. Some more reliable than others, it is expressed as a composite of facts, innuendos, emotions, personal experiences and complete fabulation into a gumbo for entertainment purposes alone.

Watch Bomben retire next year like John Chick did!

Doubt it very much or it would be out there already.

Ticats head coach June Jones confirms on @TSN1150 the negotiation list player traded to the Als in the deal for the 1st overall pick is not Johnny Manziel.

The neg list player #Als receive from Hamilton is QB Alex Tanney. He's 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds. Just released by Tennessee, he signed with the New York Giants.

He is heading into the final season of his contract.  And, that situation would have been considered by the Cats when considering making this trade.

I think this trade probably explains why the TiCats were, by my count, a couple of days late in getting their roster down to the, end of April, 75 + non-counters, limit.  While it's been reported locally that the club "has a few non-counters" and "didn't need to make any cuts to meet the limit," I believe their only non-counter is DL Jack McEwen.  If I'm right on that, with Bomben and Robinson gone, the roster is now down to the limit with 76 players, including McEwen.

Good luck Ryan and thanks for some great memories!

Bomben was a true brightspot on the O-Line during his time here.  Always hustling downfield, usually picking up and dusting off a Ti-Cat receiver or ball carrier.

He will be missed.
