Really Bob, is part of your legacy plan?

Wow, so insults league rules after they bent backwards for him and now opts to negotiate with the media and demands hall of fame salary from a team that just had to deal a guy who wasn't a hall of famer, making a hall of fame salary. All for a QB with a professional completion percentage of 57%. What's worse is he then has the arrogance to tweet out himself that he'll be playing Football this year.

Seriously, this is a joke. In fact, the only bigger joke is how long this has gone on for. If he wants to play Football this year, let him go have fun in the Arena league.

I would grab Kevin Glenn is a heartbeat. He is the ideal backup QB. He might not win you the Grey Cup (although I do sincerely hope he gets that ring before retirement) but he'll more then likely get you there.

This all said, similar to VY in SK - and I read a lot about whether he was worth a contract given his age and when he last played - there is little to no risk in signing the guy to $500k/yr contract and getting him into camp.
Welcome, Ticatsfan25.

One point I would make is that there is a downside to signing an unproven guy for so much money.  Despite what you said later about being OK with exceeding the salary cap, the team needs to at least try to fit all the pieces into an overall cap structure.

It's a zero-sum game as far as the players are concerned.  If you pay starter money to two QBs, you'll have to find savings somewhere else.  This likely means foregoing proven free agents at various other positions - multiple free agents, in fact - and going with rookies.  We tried this strategy in 2017 for whatever reason and got burned.

If you then decide at the end of training camp to cut your QB loose, it's too late to go out and grab the best free agents, who will be locked in with other teams.  In other words, you would essentially be betting the season on Johnny's success.  That would be an interesting bet indeed.
Of course you want to try as best you can to make it work, I imagine that is exactly what they are doing however nothing wrong with planning on finding savings if they do pay him to keep him.  Risk/reward I guess for "possibly the greatest to ever play in the CFL".  Have to also think that if trading his rights are an option that what they get in return will have enough cap savings to make it worth losing the chance to see what he's got.  Again, non-guaranteed contract means can cut him loose whenever.

I also hope that by now they have a good idea of what they've got in Golson.  He is entering year three, hasn't played a down I think.  Cant see them not re-signing him after investing this time in him plus letting Collaros go.  If they think they can't sign Manziel and enter season with just Masoli and Golson then you'd better believe they are comfortable with that.  Or, maybe they just think they can get something done with JM after all this time.  Guess time will tell!

The more and more I hear of the QB situation here, the more I know
that the lose of Collaros is going to hurt us.

JM'S agent is right about the CFL'S archaic amateur protection rights rule extending into perpetuity. It sure as heck is restrictive and needs to be challenged.
You are both wrong. It's a year. Perpetuity is a little longer.
Correct. Both sides now have a year to negotia in perptuity te and then he would become a free agent I believe.
Nope. The perpetuity clause still exists for amateur signings even though deals can still be made.

The worst blunder in this whole deal is Jones saying : Johnny🏈 could be the best ever in the CFL ?! That just raised his stock overnight and hell they have a good point Zack hasn’t done shit since his ACL @ 500 Grand a year WTF $$!!

I thought from the start of all the Manziel talk that he would want Collaros size money and more .
With all the animosity towards him it would be best to trade him to Montreal I believe better sooner than later ....

Are you sure? The only thing I can find was from one of the articles ...

The CFL official added Hamilton could simply offer Manziel a two-year contract — one year plus team option — for the league minimum of $53,000 annually. Chances are good the offer would be rejected, thus giving the Ticats a year to work out a suitable deal with Manziel.

This is all just part of negotiation. Manziel's agent reaching for straws trying to find any piece of leverage to use to his advantage. He wants to get the most for his client of course. And guess what, he is right. The neg list player does not have any leverage. It is all in favor of the team and the Ticats have Mr Manziel and his agent by the throat and can dictate the way they want this to go.
Patients everyone, a very smart person once said to me "If you have time, use it". The Cats have no rush here. It is slow play time and if Manziel wants to threaten going to another league good luck. His best way back to the NFL is by playing in the CFL. Manziel has admitted as much by his actions so far. and posting a Canadian flag on his twitter post.
This is early in week one. Deep breath and let them sit for a bit and calm down and they Manziel team will regain their senses.
We already have our starting QB, no panic in Ticat land.

Really....

The guy's been out of pro football for two years. When he was there, couldn't hold a job, even a clipboard. Has proven to be lazy and unmotivated. Last picture we saw of him was considerably out of shape.

Has proven NOTHING in the league ranks.

Yet, he is demanding starter money.

If the Tiger cats fail to comply, he will soon end up where he came from, a beach with a cooler of beer, counting money from his parent's trust fund.

Can't understand for the life of me why the management of this team is entertaining such a ridiculous circumstance.

This guy is poison. Keep Masoli as the starter and use the $500K that would be wasted on Manziel to beef up the O-Line. With a stellar O-Line and healthy receiving corps Masoli will rip up the opposition.
I like that idea.
