First the Canada one is partly sang in French, another sign that they are doing a good job of taking over the entire country.

Secondly this year has been the first time I have heard the US national anthem being sung in a CFL game. I realize that many players are American. But the games are being played in Canada. Most people in the US don't know what the CFL is, don't care at all about Canada, couldn't even locate it on the map. Many Americans thing that Canada is an inferior place, I don't agree with this. It will be a cold day in hell when the Canadian anthem is sang in the US. A Canadian in the US is considered an outsider whether he is from Canada or Timbuktu, it makes no difference. In many contexts Canada is considered overseas, don't laugh. The US does not pay any special favors for Canada. I think the CFL looks really stupid and naïve for playing the American national anthem.

I could care less about the anthems, but after such an ignorant comment how am I to take this topic seriously?  As for the US anthem, check your calendar.

Being in Ottawa, the nations capitol, who has two official languages, it is no surprise that it would be sung in English and French.

I've heard it a few times, they probably sang it since it is July the Fourth and because half the players are American.  Nice touch.  BTW, back in the US expansion days, all games started with both national anthems.

According to a recent poll conducted by McCleans 10% of Americans follow the CFL “very closely” or “fairly closely.”  Even if it is half of that, then that's a pretty good number of Americans following the CFL.

I think you are just getting your panties in a bunch over nothing.  Even if the Americans never did sing O'Canada, it doesn't mean that our country should stoop to that.  I'd rather be the "better man/country" and not fall into the childish "if you don't we won't" bruhaha

And on that note, as a Canadian, I would like to send out a message to our American viewers.

We're sorry for inflicting Rod Black on you.

And Duanne Forde. Please don't judge use by Black and Forde. Unlike dumber and dumber we really do understand football. Both versions.

As an american I thought the US anthem being sang at the game was a very nice and neighborly gesture. Decent job on it too.    Rod Black is the Joe Buck of the north (definitely not a compliment) And I do enjoy the Drinking game.   Duane Ford is definitely not Mr Spontaneous when it comes to Color commentary but I have heard worse

I didn't hear the American anthem yesterday, I heard God Bless America.

Half the reason they did this is because of USA viewers.

Well its good to see the powers that run the CFL care about us US viewers!

Am I the only one who thinks national anthems before sporting events is incredibly unnecessary? I don't mind it for things like Canada or Independence day games cause those days are special to the country. Its also another thing for them to be sung at sporting events like the World Cup, Olympics or any national events as that is part of the point of them. But every day games I find it just to be lame, unnecessary, and a waste of time.

I love Canada, and I am proud to have grown up here, but I just don't get the point of the anthem before every game.

A few of the Marshall fans actually liked him  :o
Everything I write is just an opinion formed from various sources. Some more reliable than others, it is expressed as a composite of facts, innuendos, emotions, personal experiences and complete fabulation into a gumbo for entertainment purposes alone.

I think it had more to do with the American players on the field and not so much the US viewers.

It is rare that you hear the anthem on tv anyway. Normally just Canada Day games and Grey Cups. Normally while it is played, TSN is still in the booth with the pre-game takes.

However nice move for the July 4 weekend.

If it was not for Americans coming up here to play , we would not have the great quality league we enjoy.

BTW, someone questioned as to why the anthem is played in the CFL.

My view is that if it was not for the Canadians who fought and died on Juno Beach, we would not have a CFL league today.
We would all be speaking German and following soccer.

I thought it was a very commendable thing to see. I for one think it was a very kind and nice thing to do. I like both Canada and the USA.
I LOVE CHRIS RUDGE AND DAVID BRALEY

I am sure our American viewers must snicker at the word "abewt" (about). I am an (urban) Canadian and it makes my skin crawl! Chris Cuthbert is the worst offender (next to Kate Bierness on TSN). It's a really Ontario thing.
