Knocked Up (2007) :

Highly OVERrated stoner/slacker comedy. Only Leslie Mann adds something positive to this overlong trash.

I watched Knocked Up so you don't have to.  You're welcome!

2.5/10

Full Disclosure : I am NOT a fan of either Seth Rogen or Judd Apatow.

You're right Kevin, this movie is lame. Johnny dislikes Judd Apatow movies.

The only exception is the "40 year old virgin". That movie is good because Steve Carell is funny and great in the role, and Catherine Keener is sweet and charming. It is those two that make the movie.

Lady Bird (2017) :

Lady Bird is about a non Catholic girl from Sacramento, who grows up in a poor dysfunctional home, and goes to an all girl Catholic high school.

Unfortunately, I found it difficult to relate to any of the characters and, despite my Catholic upbringing, the film provided no emotional impact.

What did please me...

Lady Bird is Catholic positive.  Much of the story takes place in a Catholic community, in a Catholic school, and in a Catholic Church.  The Priests and Nuns are wonderful people.  For this reason, and ONLY for this reason, I am giving the movie a 7.5, instead of the 5 it deserves.

From the trailer, Lady Bird does look like a decent movie I will say.

Low expectations are a wonderful thing.  Sadly, when it comes to movies, high expectations are a curse.  I watched Lady Bird with the latter and I was very disappointed.

Having said that, I could see women LOVING this movie.

As I mentioned, I LOVED the positive Catholic perspective.  Other than that... meh.

Three Billboards outside Ebbing Missouri :

I hated the first half  hour and thought what is this liberal cop hating crap .

Then it takes you a whole different direction and they take a one dimensional cartoon character into a complete human being and it touches you .

That's all I can give you ; the dialogue is ruff for a reason and it twerks your emotions and thinking by playing mind games with the human spirit of forgiveness and change .

Well done but it really didn't need to be that vulgar when they are talking to their wives . Clean that up and I give it a 9 with it I give it a solid 7  out of 10 . They have something great here but sometimes they go too far trying to be something it's not.

Molly's Game (2017) :

Ever heard of a hooker with a heart of gold?

Well, "Molly Bloom is a young woman who ran the world's most exclusive high-stake poker game in Los Angeles and New York City, for nearly a decade" (as per Wiki), and she has a heart of gold because, no matter what the FBI offers, she won't disclose/ruin the lives of the people who sat at her table. It's a true story that Aaron Sorkin somehow made boring - 140 minutes that feels much longer.

The film's only redeeming feature is Jessica Chastain's beautiful, ever present, cleavage.  Other than that, Molly's Game is unwatchable.

I was wondering if there was enough of a story to hold my interest . After your review I can see there isn't .

During the last half hour, I spent my time examining the stitching around the Ticat patch on my winter jacket.  It was more interesting than the movie.

 The Shape of Water :

Another movie like the Three Billboards getting Oscar consideration in 2018.

Well it's not exactly the beauty and the beast but there is beastiality  .

It's definitely one of those quirky one of a kind movies that has a child's imagination or drug inspired  story with adult themes , nudity and language .

It's the Cold War and they discover a beast in the amazon jungle and bring it to a military style lab to examine it etc ... . A lonely mute cleaning lady is interested in a relationship and the rest is Hollywood or an adult fairy tale .

I wouldn't say it was boring it held my interest but it requires one to enjoy and accept the premise no matter how absurd .

It would be a low 6 for the story . A 7 for the acting and directing .

The Man With The Iron Heart (2017) :

As per wiki, "The film is based on the Laurent Binet`s novel HHhH about Operation Anthropoid, the assassination of Nazi leader Reinhard Heydrich in Prague".

Unlike many critics, I really enjoyed both halves of this film - the first hour is about Heydrich's murderous climb; the second is about his assassination and the Czech/Slovak resistance.

The Man With The Iron Heart was much better than I expected.

As per wiki, "13 Minutes is a 2015 German drama film directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel that tells the true story of Georg Elser's failed attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler in November 1939. The title of the film is drawn from the fact that Elser's bomb detonated in a venue that the Fuhrer had left just 13 minutes before."

It could be dumber there could be snakes on the m f n commuter train and Samuel Jackson could yell and talk in a high octave the entire time .

Disappointed at the review I like Liam Neeson but the the other Takens after the first Taken spoke volumes that a story needs to have some quality control .After those dandies it's viewer beware with Neeson action films .

This time of year put The Grey on and enjoy Liam at his best .

Looking forward to Hostiles with Christian Bale . He usually takes his craft seriously sometimes too seriously .
